Saying Goodbye to October

With Mid Term now upon us I have a very quiet week ahead. As a lead up to the break we ran a few ranking events. Cathal O’Driscoll leads the Bantry Gael Scoil ahead of Donal O’Riordan and Conor

Hanley. The Bantry Club is lead by Jasmine Kelly with Dara McCarthy and Paddy Cronin. Christopher Benn heads up Abbeystrewry with Darragh Coombes and Ciaran Coombes.

.
We don’t run rankings in Goleen but maybe we should but most of the players are already involved in more competitions so it would not serve the same purpose.

.
We have a few players coming to the Schull Community College sessions and I am hoping to get 3 teams to travel to the Munster School’s League at the end of November.

.
Mair and James were selected for the Irish Squad Training Sessions as part of the “development” squad. I am not sure what the criteria for this are as there is a “performance” squad as well. There were 40 selected between the both but only around 20 turned up. James decided as he has his Junior Cert. this year and they were asking players to training for 15hrs per week that he wouldn’t be in a position to commit that much time. I don’t know if he had been selected for the “performance” squad whether that would have changed his opinion.

Mair has transition this year and was very interested in taking up her place. She appeared to really enjoy the camp even though she suffered from a shoulder injury on the second day.

.
West Cork will host the next Munster Ranking on the weekend of the 7th/8th November. The forms are out and I collected the trophies from Bandon on my way up to Dublin on the weekend.

.
West Cork Table Tennis have had a close association with Celtic Table Tennis for many years and Mair & James are provided with their all their equipment by Ted. The guys have always liked Joola equipment after their 2 year association with the company. Joola always have a great selection of bright colours to choose from and this season they have gone with a green and blue combination.

Joola have been continuing to develop their top range of rubbers and this season launched the Rhythm Tech. James loves the combination of speed and control the rubbers give him and James has had tremendous early success with them.
