On the 1st December 2015, three local schools, Scoil Pól Kilfinane, CBS Charleville and Hazelwood College Dromcollogher got together to play the first tournament of what they hope will be many. Held in the gym in Scoil Pól the tournament follows two hugely successful days of coaching given by Owen Kelly of Table Tennis Ireland. 30 boys and 8 girls took part in the tournament with Patrick O Donovan of CBS winning the boys and  Rachele Gubbins of Scoil Pól winning the girls. Everyone involved had a most enjoyable day, with many skills and techniques being improved upon during the course of the day. It is hoped that table tennis will develop throughout the county and that other schools will get involved.

Through the involvement of Table Tennis Ireland it is hoped to run a more formal tournament in the Spring which could also involve any other schools in the region who would be interested in taking part.

As a sport Table Tennis is great, particularly in the Winter months. It has the highest level of player participation of all sports in the world, due largely the popularity of the sport in China. It is a game which at the highest level requires players to be skillful, quick, tactically aware and fit. The great thing about Table Tennis as a sport is that it is not weather dependent, suits all ages and ability levels and a lot of people can play in a relatively small space.
